Lantzville Official Community Plan

Landworks worked as Project Planner with two colleagues in preparing a Community Profile and an Official Community Plan for the recently-incorporated District Municipality of Lantzville. This project, which entailed an extensive public participation process, was completed in just over a year.
Lantzville is a community of approximately 3,800 people, covering 2,790 hectares of land and 25 hectares of water.

Lantzville borders the rapidly-urbanizing neighbourhood of North Nanaimo and wished to retain its rural and semi-rural character, with a small village centre.

The community wanted an Official Community Plan that would help preserve the mix of residential lots, acreages, farmland, forestland and a historic village centre, all oriented to its Georgia Strait waterfront.

The public process entailed 20 “kitchen table” or home meetings, community walkabouts, a community survey, numerous workshops, focus groups and open houses, prior to the public hearing. A Steering Committee and Lantzville’s Council were involved throughout the process.

Lantzville’s Community Profile and OCP are available on the District’s web site at  www.lantzville.ca
