Land Management Plans

Landworks was the Project Planner in the preparation of Land Management Plans for Catalyst Paper Corporation’s paper mills in Crofton, Elk Falls, Port Alberni and Powell River.
This project entailed inspection of all properties owned by the client, assessment and categorization of the properties as operation, strategic or non- strategic. On-going land management issues and disposal of non-strategic or surplus properties were addressed in the Plans for each mill.

Landworks and a property administrator worked closely with both each individual mill’s personnel and head office staff to ensure that all operations and information regarding mill and waterline properties were reviewed and discussed in the Land Management Plans.

Powell River Division

Some strategic properties are leased as farmland to local farmers, while enabling the Division to retain the properties for future use.

Crofton Division tidal flats

It was determined that two of the Divisions had land that is not required for the operation of the mill – in one case, surplus land totalling over 300 hectares.

Elk Falls Division

Mill managers are able to use the Land Management Plans in keeping track of and dealing with all property-related issues such as easements, rights-of-way, leases and licences.
